Pueblo West Community Teen Cooperative Opening Doors to the Future

Pueblo West Community Teen Cooperative is a non-profit Colorado corporation established by local residents to develop a center for Pueblo West teens.

The teen center is an after-school and weekend gathering place for teens (sixth grade through senior in high school) with unstructured and structured activities. The atmosphere will be comfortable, cheerful and safe. Hours of operation will be extended during the summer and school vacations. Daytime use will be available for other groups such as senior citizens and other non-profit organizations. Financial support will be obtained initially through grants and large donors. Ongoing operational support will be raised in a community wide canvass so that there is no charge to teens for the general use of the center. A Teen Leadership track will include training and responsibilities like serving on the Teen Leadership Committee, which will be involved in developing programs and managing the center. Initial staff will include; an Executive Director, at least two program staff, a volunteer coordinator, a building maintenance person, and a safety official. Volunteers will be recruited and relied on for most of the adult supervision. Every effort will be made to involve parents in all aspects of the program. The goal for each individual teen is the development of high self worth, confidence and relational responsibility, both personal and within the community, at this critical stage of life.
